The empty chair

First season · October 2026

October is the month the lodge practices being a lodge.

The lifts are still dark. The fire is lit anyway. By the tall window, one chair stays empty on purpose — a cashmere throw folded once over the arm, a negroni measured by eye on the table beside it, the ice already giving way, a coupe no one has touched.

We keep the rituals before the season needs them. The record that ends the night is chosen early, which is as close as we come to a plan. Last call is a rumour. The room is yours before it has a name, and what you practice in it travels home long before anyone asks how the skiing was.

We are not saving the chair for anyone in particular. We are saving it for whoever already knows why they came.
